On Death....

Memento Mori....remember that you are going to die soon. We all know it's coming. Like a freight train. When we least expect it. Bam. Nothingness. I recently heard an interview with Stan Lee where he said that he couldn't fathom nothingness forever. That's what he couldn't grasp. There have been many who have warned us about the inevitability of death and that it's coming for us. Here's what Seneca had to say about it.

“Let us prepare our minds as if we’d come to the very end of life. Let us postpone nothing. Let us balance life’s books each day. … The one who puts the finishing touches on their life each day is never short of time.” Seneca and another pioneer of our time, Steve Jobs said.... Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart. Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life.

I have had to deal with the death of many relatives and friends. It's hard to let them go. But I believe that adding a remeberance of death to your daily routine makes what you do daily to improve your situation better. We are mortal. We are frail and the fact that we exist at this time and place is simply remarkable. Remember that you will die and that this life is temporary. It makes life so worth it.
